These fantastic Banjo Catfish are from Richmond Aquarium. After searching locally for a few years, I was surprised to come across these gems at a saltwater shop, of all places! Thanks to Andy (hope I've got his name right) for his help and very friendly service. ThumbsUp

I'm fairly certain they are Bunocephalus coracoideus, but to make sure I've asked on Planet Catfish for a firm ID. My other banjo relative which I've had for three years or so is Pseudobunocephalus quadriradiatus.

Nice find. Hope they do well for you. How large will they get?

An ID has been sent by a Planet Catfish notable *Wink* with whom I have had dealings with before regarding ID. He says the above banjo catfish is Bunocephalus colombianus, a close cousin of the one I thought it was. B. colombianus reportedly grows to 130mm, or 13cm, or just about 5". About half of that is long skinny tail, though! *lol*

They love to bury and when they are released into a sand tank that is the first thing they do.

That's pretty cool. I see them from time to time and never picked one up because I thought would outgrow my tank. Great find. I will have to keep an eye out for a couple for me now.
