I got a call from a friend of mine saying he picked up some new fish and wanted me to check them out. I fell in love with the pleco he got immediately. I didn't know what type it was and he couldn't remember the name but he knew there was one left. I got in touch with the owner Rama over at skoolzoffish and he opened his shop up today for me to come get it.

Here is a picture still in the net going in to QT.

Very nice pleco! I was trying to get Rama to get his shop opened up next weekend so I could check it out. He told me by appointment only.

I talked to him today. He said more than likely he will have an open house next weekend. He has a lot of sting rays and catfish and others from a Peru order that just came in.

Have you had good luck buying from him? I purchased from him twice and both times I lost not only the fish I purchased but several others in my tank mysteriously turned sick and died. First time I thought was a fluke, but twice???? Plus I tried to get a refund the second time as fish died intwo days and he would not get back with me. Both times I checked my water and neither time was there a problem.

Ron I personally have not had any problems. I have only bought tetras and catfish from him. I have not bought any africans. I have also learned to qt everything I buy now. I am sorry you had such trouble Ron.

Ron, Wow!!!! sorry to hear that..... that sux big time man. and Ben you are right, we should put the new fish in a holding tank to check it out for a while. i never have done that myself in a long time. but i guess i need to start doing that from now own. i have too much tied up in my tank now to lose any of them.

I let mine go a week unless they show signs of sickness. I know some people qt for 4-6 weeks. I used to throw fish straight in but I have learned my lesson on that now.

Three weeks is a good number. I keep another filter for the qt running on an established tank. When you need a hospital or QT get you empty tank and fill it up with the extra filter. You can also tuck a sponge filter away in an established tank and use that.

Also it is a good thing to take a fish from the main tank and introduce it to the new fish just to see if stress causes any unseen illness to arise. I usually use a fish that I wouldn't mind losing but I never have lost one. Its almost like a sacrifice fish or test fish.
