Here are the latest pix of the 55, which is a Southeast Asian theme tank.

This is the mid-section:

That blue streak off to the right is one of the male Bettas, and just below him, to the left with an extremely blue eye, is one of the ricefish.  (Daisy's Ricefish, Oryzias woworae, named after scientist Daisy Wowor.)

Dwarf rainbowfish!

Melanotaenia praecox
They like to hover so I can sometimes snap a good pic.

This is the filter end, the left side of the tank.  Those flat rocks are where the Hillstream Loaches will hang out, if and when. *lol*

True freshwater Rainbow Goby!

Stiphodon ornatus, Stiphodon sp. "ST02"
So cute perching there!  This Stiphodon species used to be known as "ST02" but a recent scientific change now lists it as S. ornatus.

Nice what are all the plants I see? Are they low light? And did you buy them at an Lfs or online?
ThumbsUp

The plants are not in the least unusual and I got them all locally.

In the top pic, the foreground plant is Cryptocoryne wendtii (green).  The parent plant is years old, in another tank.  The original source was the old Pet Club on Parham Road (now out of business.)

The tall skinny green plants are Crypt crispatula (balansae) and I got the ones in this tank from Skoolz of Fish here in town.

The reddish plant that's growing the floating leaves is a red lily bulb (Nymphaea sp.) from PetSmart.  They come two or three to a blister pack and when they grow, they really do!

The plant in the pic with the goby is Crypt blassii.  It came from a PVAS plant auction which I didn't attend but someone gave it to me as a gift.  Club meetings are good places to get all kinds of plants.

The tank is lit by one 17W lamp on a siesta schedule plus any light from the room so I guess you could say these plants tolerate low light.

Great looking tank. Love the plants. You prove a good looking planted tank doesn't have to be high tech. Fantastic use of low light plants!!! great

Deb does a great job with lighting effects - it appears the light is coming in from a single small opening at the surface.

Very wonderful setup.

Scientific update!
The goby pictured above is Stiphodon maculidorsalis, so named after a review of the genus in 2013.  Its former name is Stiphodon sp. "ST01."

Just found out today!

Yay for the goby! It must be humiliating to have only a species number, lol.  Wink

Time for another update!

I got these Odessa barbs from Azalea Aquariums back in March.

Pethia padamya

Sorry the pic isn't better - they are quite striking!

The java fern is a recent addition, courtesy of David (ddavis1979) who was giving his a trim.
These plants are VERY nice and the next pic shows them off better -

Microsorum pteropus

glad to see they are going to good use! I love the Odessa Barbs, one of my favorite fish. You do a much better job at making the plants look nice!

*lol* I used a flash for the first pic and turned it off for the second.

I love these ferns because the leaves are nice and broad.  Cryptocoryne balansae would not grow in that corner (although it's growing elsewhere in the tank) so the ferns were an ideal replacement.
