RAS: February 5 - the Mangrove Rivulus Killifish.

Thursday, Feb 5 : Benjamin Perlman from Wake Forest Univiversity will present a program on his research subjects, the Mangrove Rivulus (Killifish) which occurs from Florida to Brazil - one of th,e most biologically bizarre creatures in the fish world. It's an amazing quasi-amphibious fish that can live out of water for 2 months, can travel and catch bugs on land, and can fertilize its own eggs! Ben will discuss the Mangove killie's natural history, behavior, and special adaptations. We hope you can join us!

Raleigh Aquarium Society monthly meetings are on the First Thursday each month, 7:30 - 9:30 PM at the NCSU Vet School (corner of Blue Ridge Rd and Hillsborough Street). Monthly meetings are FREE and always open to visitors. From the main entrance lobby go downstairs (under the whale), straight through two double doors, and the South Theater classroom is on the right. The speaker program starts about 8:00. To receive our monthly RAS Meeting Notice & Newsletter by email, send an email to raleighaquariumsociety@yahoo.com with "RAS subscribe" as the subject.

Bring your extra fish, shrimp, plants, and aquarium supplies for the RAS monthly raffle or silent auction. (Raffle items are donated to the club, and you get free raffle tickets. For silent auction items you will get a portion of the selling price). We’re always looking for new RAS program ideas. If you’d like to be a speaker at any of our meetings, or have ideas for a good speaker or topic, let us know.

ALSO: Mark your calendars now for the CAROLINA AQUARIUM WORKSHOP and AUCTION, Feb 13-15, 2015 at the NC State Fairgrounds. This will be our 30th workshop year! Speakers include Paul Loiselle (NY Aquarium), David Ramsey (Atlanta Aquar Assoc), Stephan Tanner (Swiss Tropicals), Linda Dirk (NCSU Vet School), Larry Jinks (RAS), and Rachel O'Leary (MsJinkzd).
