PostSubject: Crystal Red Shrimp Colony    Mon Aug 15, 2016 12:39 pm

Just a video of my Crystal Red Shrimp Colony going all crazy after I planted a crypt and made a mess. I have had this tank for about 5 months now and the colony is just starting to explode. This tank is on the floor so it's hard to get good angle without hurting my back so excuse the bad camera skills. Hopefully the next one will be better.

Species - Caridina cantonensis sp. "Red"

My Water Parameters.
Ph-5.6 - 6.0
Tds-140- 150
KH-0 - 1
Gh- 6- 8

I'm currently using RO/DI water and Salty Shrimp GH remineralizer. My active substrate is Ada soil which helps buffer my ph quite well. Enjoy the video and leave any questions or comments you have.

That is amazing, great shrimp and great tank! Let me know if you are ever interesting in selling some of the shrimp.

Do you buy RO/DI water? Do you do water changes? How often to you feed and what do you feed them?

Thanks Davis, I'm currently making my own water using BRS 6 stage RO/DI system and loving it so far. I got mine during Black Friday Sale Last year and I feel like its worth every penny. I'm only doing water changes once or twice a month as I see fit. My current feeding schedule is 3 times a week (Mon, Wed & Fri) with two days of bacterial food and one day of hard pellet food. So far it's working out great and my colony is just starting to explode. I do plan on starting few more tanks and keep few more types. Once you have a establish colony they are really fascinating to watch. If you are interested in buying some pm me.

Thanks,
Anik

Nice color and pattern on those! Do you feed them any leaves or vegetables?

I just put Indian Almond leave every few weeks until old leaves starts to breakdown. I haven't tried any vegetables yet but wouldn't mind trying some. What would you recommenced???

peas, green beans, kale, romaine, sweet potato, carrot, squash, ...
mulberry leaves (fresh off the tree is fine - doesn't need to be dried)

I'm afraid of pesticides leeching in the tank, but do you think organic vegetables would be better for feeding?? Should I boil the vegetable or feed them raw???
