PostSubject: Root Tabs   Mon Feb 06, 2017 7:11 pm

Hi All, got a question about root tabs. I know this topic has surfaced and been debated with the Forum off and on thru the years. Those of you that do use them and find them helpful I have a question. I see on internet, and we all know how accurate it is just look at last years elections.....ahh I digress... has anyone tried and or use Osmocote Plus? I see it sold on Amazon and Ebay, but if it is safe and works seems pretty easy to DIY and a whole lot less expensive. Hope all is well with everyone back in VA.

Ron;
My experience with the Osmocote tabs has not been good. The capsules designate and the pellets can come to the surface. I think the principle is good but if you happen to disturb them they can end up on the surface of the substrate. I have had to pick them out of the aquariums I have put them in after the capsules have broken. If you have very deep substrate and put the capsules deep it does work fine.

I have a bunch of capsules that I will be using for my potted plants - not in the aquariums.

I have used the Jobes Palm fertilizer sticks -- again as long as they are not disturbed and stay below the surface it is ok.

FYI
Steve
