PostSubject: Fish Death   Wed Apr 04, 2012 4:57 pm

ok, so the last couple of days my male msobo magunga deep african cichlid stopped eating. i have tried feeding him spirulina flakes, algae wafers (hikari), goldfish flakes and cichlid pellets... nothing. he just wouldnt eat. i have been doing water changes and yesterday i added a small amount of prime to the tank in case it was nitrate poisoning. this tank has been established for almost a year and other fish include: 2 female msobos, 1m/1f kenyi, 1m/1f bumblebee, 2m/3f yellow labs. today i got home and he was at the bottom of the tank dead:( he'd been fine up to this point. i also noticed there were rocks in his mouth.. quite a few and i was wondering is this a sign of anything? any help appreciated thanks

Possible he had a rock stuck in his throat or gullet. I had two male auratas thet were prolific diggers. They both at times had lodged gravel in their mouths. It took them a long time to expell. Thought I would lose them but they pulled through. Keep an eye on rest of your fish to see if they show any lethargy, or loss of appetite. Hopefully only a one time loss. Sorry to hear you lost him.

Still hard to say. Keep a close eye on your other fish. could have been a parasite, or disease, injury, or injested some gravel... I'm not an expert by any means. Hope all is well with other fish

no i understand. yeah it might have just been "his time". he was full grown, im not sure how old. all others seem good at this point, also just stripped 4 rusy's in my 75 gal and had like 20 fry altogether and 18 eggs i plan on tumbling. btw those rusty's were only like an inch and a half!
