Ok everyone, here are some pics of our updated set up. The move went well. Since the move we have increased our set up to 70 tanks to include 1 150, 4 75s, 6 55s, 1 45, 20 29s, 9 20s and 29 10s. I also hard piped the air system in. Not sure of any more new details to share but ask away if you wana know anything else about it bounce

It works really well. We use to be very much against stripping females but we had a couple strains of peacocks that kept prematurley spitting or swallowing so we started stripping them, it worked so well we decided to strip all of them. Since we started doing that we've been much more successful getting good batches of fry, even from small inexperienced females. I feel like the fry developed faster this way as well.

Very nice. You've done a great job. Looks like I'm in a long line of envious fish nuts. I too would love to see your operation. Road Trip anyone? lol

Thanks Brian, yeah time will only tell how this new endeavor of ours will take off, the good thing is we have plenty of patience cause were having so much dag gone fun!!! We just added 13 more breeder colonies and most of them are very young, give it a few months and they'll start "gettin it on" and we'll really have our hands full!!!
Anytime you and Jen wana make the trip up here be my guest, wed love to have ya!!

I think...no I AM in LOVE with this setup!!! I can look at this now and tell myself this is why I am going to put myself through law school lol...someone has to finance the operation lol! Flip foesnt know this but i want to build a huge second building in the back with its own power and temp control and keep the house as a normal functioning house lol whenever we actually buy one. So he will have his own fish house and can keep his garage for the cars, and then he's getting another building as his workshop to build the stands and all the other little projects he gets into. I decided a lawyers salary is the only thing going to pay for that, lol, so wish me luck.

You guys should have us all over who want to see after the meet, since we will be up that way anyways. Tell Lisa I look forward to seeing her again and she better be there!

Yur funny Jen!!! Believe me niether Lisa or I are attorneys, just 100% committed to what we want to do. We have both put anything and everything extra we have into this and were not even close to being done. The way I have things planned were gonna have somewhere around 150 tanks in the garage before we run out of room. With a little creativety, craigslist and petcos $1 a gallon sale we've put this together in about 5 months but were just getting started. We are so passionate about fish keeping and fish breeding we won't rest until we are making our living from raising these lil guys:-).
I love the idea about coming up here after the meeting, anyone who wants to do that is more then welcome!!!!

I agree. i stripped my first female after watching a bunch of how toos on youtube and it works amazing. i can strip my yellow labs at 14 days! she even spit one at 13 the other day!. i need more tumblers but its seems like i never have enough room. i just built a 20 long divided fry tank, i will try to get some pics up soon. so far in it i have labs, rusty's , convicts, and planning on some bumblebees and red zebras soon. howa bout we all rent a bus and take a trip up there. like a field trip!!

Hey koolaid I just saw that you had asked about how I strip the females. Well we document when the spawning occurred and 3-7 days after that I'll strip them. I net the female with my largest net and rest thehandle of the net on the neighboring tank so I've got both hands free. I strip her using the egg tumbler edge to gently open her mouth and the eggs fall right into the tumbler. Those eggs that don't make it into the tumbler fall into the net and I'll pick them up with a turkey baster and shoot them into the tumbler. This is also a good time for me to pull out any bad eggs before they go into the tumbler. I use a small cup and fill it halfway with water from the breeder tank, put the tumbler in it and use the cup to transport the eggs to the "nursery" tank. I'll use the cup to acclimate the eggs to the new tanks then hook up the air and attach the tumbler to the glass. Doing it this way keeps the eggs under water the whole time.

The only time my method gives me trouble is when she gets frustrated, wiggles her way out of my hand and swims right into the egg tumbler lol. Most of my breeders are way to big to fit into the tumblers but some of the mbunas are small enough to wiggle there way in.

Well I had to get on here as soon as I got home and check your tank(s) setup out. I dont know what else to say except very nice and impressive and I am gonna have to make a trip to King George very soon if nothing else just to check this out. From the pics though I need to also bring check book or some cash cause it does not look like I will be able to leave empty handed. Also it was nice to meet you both and look forward to seeing everyone again soon.
