PostSubject: DRASTIC FISH DEATHS IN A MATTER OF A WEEKs Time   Fri Jun 08, 2012 7:31 pm

I HAVE A 75 GALLON I DONT KNOW WHAT IS GOING WRONG I RECENTLY ADDED NEW FISH ABOUT 2 OR 3 WEEKS AGO AND LAST WEEKEND WHEN I CAME BACK HOME I NOTICED SOME OF MY FISH ACTING A LIL WIERD SO I DID A PARTIAL WATER CHANGE.

THE FISH I RECENTLY BOUGHT WERE VERY HEALTHY LOOKIN 3 VENUSTES AND 3 POLYSTIGMAS and 2 ob zebras 2 weeks before them to help with male to female ratios.

i have lost 2 albino socolofi, 1 venustus, 1 frontosa, 2 polystigmas, 2 yellow tail acei, 4 daktari, 1 red zebra and more are heading that way ...

they have some kind of puffy mouf action going on... and before i left monday i notice my aceis had started developing sum type of velvet white coating over their dark blue scales in which i thout it was from the socolofi's picking on the others because they had started breeding finally...

im clueless to whats going on right now . all i know is that i did start them on a new diet of sinking pellets and added a few new fish but they didnt appear to be diseased or anything as i specially select my fish or if i see dead or ill fish in an aquarium at a petshop i do not buy because of the risk involved.

so if anyone can help please offer suggestions i have been back and fourth from norfolk to richmond for a lil over a month and this is really sending me through a loop i have too much time and money invested into these guys to be just loosing them like this...

i saw that one of my socolofi had red bloody teeth as if they had been fighting due to breeding and now this weekend im home again and i see a few fish are swiming around with poofy mouths and some of them have bloody or bruised areas of there bodies and arounf there mouths...

im truely starting to think that something i introduced into the tank fish wise was truely infected with something that i was not aware of before hand

AWWW MAN, I am real sorry to hear that. I am at a lost so far. I never heard of anything like this happening before. I really hope that everyone can get together, figure this out, and come up with something. Some course of action that can be taken to fix it from ever happening again.

I am taking a stab in the dark here, but it sounds like there were two things going on. 1. By the sounds of it there was some fighting going on. 2. That some kind of fungus was introduced to the tank. I think you already know, think, or feel the same thing.

If there are any fish that are still showing the signs of the problems please take them in with the water sample and find out what they can tell ya. If not, tell them everything and hopefully there is someone knowledgeable there that can solve the problem.

I hope the problems get fixed real soon. Please keep us posted on the meds. you will be told to use to fix things.

I hope all is well Eric! after our conversation yesterday it seems like we have a good idea of the problem. I too ran into this a few times and explained to him what I did. I found that it is a gram negative bacteria so you must choose the right meds to treat. We discussed a bunch while he was at the pet store in front of the Meds. Maracyn II should do the Job. Please keep us updated

yeah i have been loosing a few more but as i told you the other day some them are acting immune to whats going on thank god my ob peacoks are doing fine... i think i will probly purchase some quick cure too to help in the treatment...

i think it may have come from my canister filter that hasnt been changed in a while due to me being in training so i will be goin back to doin it once a month like i use too...

@ koolaid i wanna say that it started with the fighting that took place when the sololofi started going into breed mode and a combination of that and lack of having the time to maintain the tank since i be out of town each week....

when i had the water tested at petsmart everything else check out fine except he said the nitrates were kinda high but that could have been from having dead fish in the tank prior to getting a sample but i did a 60% water change and added fresh water and majority of them perked up a little but some were just too far gone health wise.

treating with marcyn 2 and melafix right now... i will also be getting some fungus treatment too soon as i make up my mind if the current treatment is working

Whoa, Erik - I am so sorry to hear about this crisis! It sounds like you've got a plan going now, so hopefully you'll be in good shape soon, but I just wanted to let you know that I feel for you, and I'm also grateful that you're posting here about it so we can all learn something.

Keep us posted-
