Okay, anyone here have eel experience? I have a tiretrack eel who is an escape artist and is proving to be quite the headache. Swims up into my hob filter and I have to fish him out daily. Any suggestions?

My only eel experience has to do with sushi and what I THOUGHT was breaded chicken. It wasn't breaded chicken.

As far as your tire-track, maybe some netting? Something with 1/8 or 1/16'' holes. Kind of like a hair net or something. And as you know, a good lid. You wouldn't happen to have any pictures handy would you?

He is quite difficult to get pics of, I can try though. The hairnet idea is pretty genius. Or maybe pantyhose. It's become a pain getting him out of there every night. I've also considered lowering the water level.

We have a bomb proof lid and the only opening is in the the little gap where the water returns to the tank. At this point the only thing I suggest is an internal water filter. This way everything is covered and or under water. Eels are not fun wet pets. I guess if you like playing peek-a -boo or hide and seek they will work. lol!

My first thought was panty hose since it has kind of built it elastic, but figured it might get clogged easily. My second thought was to recycle an aquarium net and a zip tie or something. But you could probably find something just as good and not have to give up the net.

Bomb proof is good flip, I've seen videos and heard stories about eels slamming into a lid, and ones that have actually gotten out and snaked themselves into another room. I guess they can live awhile out of the water and sometimes pull through.

As far as sushi, I pretty much like it all Very Happy It's funny when I thought it was chicken I was wolfing it down it was great but when I found out it was eel, I really couldn't touch it. Full on Psych 101 - Nereus

Ours had an episode like that...slithered a great deal away from the tank for his size. Don't know how long he was out but I thought he was a goner....bounced back real quick though once he hit water.
