Here's some up-close photography of the chubby pleco we've all been wondering about. I call him Chubbs. Not very original, but it has kind of stuck at this point.

He's my buddy. We threw some bloodworms in for him; hopefully he will start eliminating soon.

Chubbs is quite active actually. I still have yet to see any waste come out of him though:( we just did a water change and the tank is all clean, so we will see if anything shows up on the sand, haha. I figure the fact he's still alive is a good sign.

Jen, my instinct with this fish is to keep the water conditions good, but don't change too much water at a time. If you can, change 10% daily. The idea is to create comfortable water for it with few fluctuations. If your filter is good, then a little debris is not a problem. Can you add a live plant to take up extra nutrients? Do you have a piece of aged bogwood to add? Did you try the leaves yet?

The head spine is starting to develop! You can see it in the pix.
It already has cheek odontodes and odontodes along the pectoral fin edges, plus general "hairiness" overall. These are all male characteristics. If these become even more pronounced then I'd say you definitely have a male.
Very Happy

Chubbs pooped cheers !! We have been offering all kinds of foods to him and it didn't look like he was eating. We did a partial 30% Rolling Eyes (I think 50% are better). Anyways we saw some leavings but wasn't sure if they were his. We cleaned the sand really good and fed a mixture of foods from bloodworms, mysis, Omega one Veggie rounds, and carnivore sinking pellets. His leavings are a solid green color and no abnormal look to it.
