PostSubject: Flippercon and Jenbubs move   Tue Oct 30, 2012 8:09 pm

So we began our move this afternoon and all is well. No tanks moved as of yet since I (Flippercon) have come down with a really bad cold. We have moved a lot of the necessary stuff needed to make it by. The fish tanks will begin their moves in the next couple of days.

Oh and there is a slight change in plans that has to deal with the amount of fish tanks. We love all the fish we keep but we have both decided to cut back on the amount we are going to keep. At the moment we have 21 tanks. 5 of which I have the fish I want to keep and the other 8 that are running are Jens. The rest are going to be sold on Criagslist to fund the 300 gallon we want to get. We have not decided on how many tanks we are going to keep but we have already cut down a lot of the stock and are getting ready to make the moves to sell. I will post up all tanks for sale as soon as we decide which ones we are getting rid of.

Tank consolidation can be a good thing, 21 tanks is a handful. Multiple tank syndrome can humble a man very quickly lol money . i am running 16 at the moment and 12 of them i am rigging up a auto water change system. I have already told myself if i start another one up then one has to come down.

Good luck with the move and get better man.

IMO the weather is perfect for moving! Crisp, cold, not too humid. I checked you out on the weather channel and it looks good. Hope you feel better soon!

A 300 gallon sounds ideal. Some of your fish will really appreciate that room Very Happy
And just think of the landscaping possibilities!

It's going okay. I feel a bit better. We have 8 tanks left to move and the big furniture. I might have to rent a truck to get the 125s over to the new place.

Moving one of them tomorrow after work. I am taking the Festae 125 first. We have gotten Jaws (pbass), Richard (buttikoferi), and Tupac and biggie(Oscars) all moved already.

Sounds like it's going well. How are the shelldwellers doing? I forgot you still had them.

They have finally settled in. I started with 7 males and 1 female. The alpha male and female spawned 4 times but lost the first two spawns from the other males and the calvus. After many of the males were killed off the spawns started to survive. Then the alpha male kills the female and is left with the the remainder of fry (about 10) and the calvus. The fry are now around an inch and very healthy. Just waiting for more females and I will start thinning out the pack.

PostSubject: Re: Flippercon and Jenbubs move   Fri Nov 09, 2012 10:55 pm

So I got my 125 with the festae over to the new place but had an accident. I had a 29 gallon sump underneath the tank.... We got main tank and sump drained, all the sand and plumbing out/off of the tank. Then heaved the 125 in the back of my buddies truck. We then had an empty 29 gallon with some ceramic rings, lava rock, and bio balls in it. We lifted the stand and started our walk to the truck. As we were about halfway over the threshold of the front door the pressboard bottom fell out and the 29 gallon broke across the bottom pane. So we had a bit of a clean up with some residual water (didn't smell to well). Any ways I have a keg bucket as my sump for a week or two until I get the other one over here and transform it into my new sump. I may just stick the 55 underneath the 125 and call it a day. More updates to come.

Not to go too off-topic but it was this experience of yours that finally put me off the shelldwellers. I had everything all ready - a nice 29 gallon tank, cichlid mix, rift lake crushed shell gravel mix, lots of special snail shells approved by the shelldwellers.com website. *lol* It was all systems go. Then I heard your story. But now, it seems like things are coming back for your colony, and that's very encouraging. Very Happy

Sorry about the 29 gallon breaking. It's a pain to clean up broken glass - I never get it all no matter what I do and going barefoot all the time does not help. *lol* Glad the 125 did not break!

To be honest Deb they are not aggressive fish, just a bit territorial. They have so much attitude for a small fish.

Well we got all the tanks moved over and we have lost only one fish Crying or Very sad ! It was one of the oldest in the house (tiger barb).
Anyway here are some pics of what has been going on.
This is the fish room, 399 gallons in one room.

Here are some pics of the living room.
The 125 on the left is being resealed in the next few weeks and the 55 on the floor is going to be my sump for the blue 125. Right now it is temporarily housing some fish until the 125 is resealed.

and the 125 and 55

Awesome man I gotta stop by one day and check it out.

I have two large gold severums 5 1/2-6 and about 6-7 inch for sell that would look killer in that 125 .

Your more then welcome Russ! I am not to sure on the severums , we have on baby green one. I really like them but I would have to reseal this tank, maybe we can work out a trade for one.

I really like your wood stands. Look sturdy. I assume you built them yourself.

Yes the unfinished ones are custom builds. I want to finish them but just don't have the time.
