PostSubject: my bolivan rams just laid eggs   Sat Nov 10, 2012 9:53 pm

Wea few days ago I noticed some strange behavior between my paired Bolivian rams so 2 days ago I setup a breeding spot for them. Well today after I put on my new canopy I noticed they weren't eating so I took a better look and found this pictures below. First time for this so its pretty cool.

Well I noticed last night the female was pecking gently at the eggs so I thought she was moving them. At the same time her and the male where doing a lil digging.this morning all the eggs are gone, the femal is less defensive of the breeding area and i looked and dont see eggs anywhere.

Dont be discouraged my friend they may be hidden out of sight, i had thouhgt the same thing with my apistos on their last spawn and then one day my wife says look we got fry in the tank.

If you dont see any free swimmers in about a week and a half then it is safe to say they didnt make it.

Thanks for the reply, that's good to know. The mom is still staying near the breeding spot but isnt as aggressive as earlier.

Are they in the tank by themselves?

It isn't unusual for Cichlid parents to take a spawn or two to figure it out.

Hi, no there in a community tank. I did barracade the spawn area so there s only way in and they seem to like that .there digging away as I type this. There basicly the rulers of the tank beside 2 severums I have in there right now but there is no way the severums can get into the spawn area.

Well the last time i thought it was going to happen but didnt. Well last night she dropped eggs again. Unlike the last time i still have the eggs, but there still on the rock and its beenba full 24 hours . Most eggs are a orangest color and about 3-4 are white.

My question is should she have moved the eggs by now? Idk i didnt get this far last time i belive they ate the eggs so this is all new to me now.

Both parents are guarding them like you wouldnt belive. They have taken over half of the 75 gallon tank and even attack my firemouth when he gets close .

You have wigglers. Let them take care of them until they go free swimming.
