I just started a 20 gallon long and am working on getting it cycled and less cloudy. I will add more plants at future times. Here is a preview anyway.

THe journal on this tank located here:
http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aquariumforum/showthread.php?t=109402

And then an updated photo of the 55 gallon with decor changes and some more mature fish.

Always great to see a new set up come together.

What are your stocking plans?

Keep us updated.

Stocking plans currently undecided.

I have always wanted to keep some shrimp, so if I do go that route, I would go guppies and tetras so that the shrimp would survive Smile

If I choose fish over invertebrates, I have always wanted to keep odessa barbs or gold barbs, but those are very hard fish to find without mail order.

I have considered doing a cory tank with some killifish or some other show fish, maybe those apistos we discussed Smile

I am toying with a lot of options, but waiting on cycle before I make any serious decisions.

Nice update photos, especially the barb. Very Happy

The 20 long is looking pretty good. Your plans for driftwood and plants, and stocking of corys and shrimp appeals to me! Many tetras, certain barbs, and many mini-fish would work fine in this sort of set-up and I'm sure you'll pick something nice. There are too many choices! I do have one suggestion about the decor - you have a mix of smooth "river rocks" and craggy, granite-like rocks. IMO one or the other is best, that is either all smooth or all rough. Different sizes are great!

I assume that big piece of wood on the far right of the 55 is the cut beech wood? It looks good. Are you thinking of attaching any plants to it, down the road?

Oh, yes, I want to add that the PetSmart near me (Short Pump) usually stocks Odessa barbs. Very Happy

Keep watching for the Golden Barbs, I see them pretty regular in the Petco's and Petsmart's....

Well the 20 is definitely an experimental tank for me. The river rocks were a contribution from a family member who wanted to see what I could do with them. I was a little skeptical at first when thinking about using them, but now I like them so much I may get river rocks instead of granite. However, the path-like appearance of the black river rocks in contrast with the mountainous granite isnt too bad either.

I will end up doing more plants and attaching some plants as things get settled in.

Agree that the path-like appearance of the black rocks is attractive. Very Happy

I need to update what I said above about Odessa barbs - PetSmart no longer carries them. The department manager said that the decision to stop distributing them was made nationally a couple of months ago. Crying or Very sad IMO this is too bad because their Odessas were nice and healthy, and grew to a good size, too.

I think that corporate PetSmart should provide logical explanations for all decisions made of this nature, haha!
